The Demosthenes Binding
Demosthenes, Printed in Venice, Aldus Manutius, 1504.
As with many of the books which come to my studio, this copy was without a binding. Demosthenes was a Statesman and orator in Ancient Greece who would practice pronunciation techniques by keeping sea pebbles in his mouth while speaking perfectly. He would also practice his volume of voice by reciting his speeches against the sound of the crashing waves against the rocks. Fittingly, these are the elements integrated into this particular artistic binding. This edition is from the Aldine Press, printed in 1504 by Master Aldo Manuzio.
Part of the collection of G. Scott Clemons.
